Rossland’s Sustainability Commission and the City of Rossland are pleased to welcome Lea Thuot to our community in her new role as the Sustainability Commission Manager. Lea is from Vancouver Island and has recently returned to BC after completing her Master’s in Strategic Leadership Towards Sustainability in Sweden.

“Rossland has many exciting initiatives taking place already,” says Lea. “I’m looking forward to living and working in a community that is so obviously passionate about its people and the natural areas around it.” Sustainability Commission chair Terry Miller is thrilled to have Lea join Rossland. “Lea has a great record putting her passion and qualifications into action. She has a strong background in tourism, has worked inside the planning department of a small municipality, was a key player in a sustainability project in Ghana… and the list goes on. Lea will be a key force as Rossland moves forward towards its vision of resiliency and sustainability. We are lucky to have her.” Rossland City Council appointed the Sustainability Commission to help guide the implementation of the Visions to Action Strategic Sustainability Plan in 2008. The plan identifies 11 Focus Areas which encompass social, environmental and economic issues. Currently, there are task forces working in four focus areas – economic development, water stewardship, housing & affordability, and energy. Communication and community engagement strategies will become an overarching priority as Lea assumes her new role.
