At the end of this month, the Selkirk College music faculty will unite
once again at the Capitol Theatre to celebrate and promote the release
of the first album in its 21 year history with Souvenir LIVE.

Last year, the faculty came together at the Capitol to raise funds for
the production of the CD entitled Souvenir. Now, with the CD having been
released in September 2009, the faculty will perform many of the
numbers, along with some other music, live at the Capitol.

“The main reason we are performing is to raise awareness of the
availability of the CD and the students it is supporting,” explained
contemporary music and technology coordinator Darren Mahe. “Proceeds
from the show and the CD go back into student awards and bursaries,
making it a worthwhile endeavor on all fronts.”

In addition to the faculty performance (which includes Don Macdonald,
Cheryl Hodge, Darren Mahe, Steven Parish, Mark Spielman, Paul Landsberg,
Glennn Mitchell, Gilles Parenteau, Laura Landsberg and Kiyoshi Elkuf), a
set performed by some of the finest music students will also be
incorporated into the show and will feature Broadway and Beatles
ensembles.

Souvenir LIVE takes place on Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson. Tickets are $20 or $10 for seniors and students with ID and are available through the Capitol Theatre in Nelson (250-352-6363 or capitoltheatre.bc.ca). To find out more about the concert, contact the college at 250-505-1357.
