The Castlegar Fire Department received a request this morning shortly before 10 a.m. of a cat trapped in a hole in a concrete wall, according to Fire Chief Gerry Rempel.

“Upon arrival it was found with only its head protruding through the six-inch concrete,” Rempel said, adding they tried coating the fur with baby oil, to no avail. “After several attempts by firefighters to dislodge the cat, a veterinarian was contacted to attend. The cat was subsequently sedated while firefighters enlarged the hole with a powered hammer drill.

“Firefighters were able to free the cat after a two-hour rescue operation,” he concluded. “The cat is resting peacefully under observation by staff at the Arrow Lakes Veterinary Clinic.”
