Trail’s Opt clinic is doubling its hours and lowering the cost of birth control.

Starting May 4th, the Trail Opt Clinic is now open every week: every Wednesday night from 4:30-7 p.m. The Trail Opt Clinic is one of Options for Sexual Health’s (Opt) 58 clinics in the province of B.C. Since the clinic opened in 2003, it has served close to 1,000 clients.

In addition to doubling the operating hours in Trail, as of April 1st, Opt has also reduced the cost of all birth control pills.

Joanne Tench RN, the Main Supervisor at the Trail Opt clinic, is thrilled about the changes. The demand for Opt’s services have continued to grow over the years. The extended clinic hours will provide more consistent and timely access to sexually transmitted infection (STI) care and cheaper birth control.

Both of these changes speak to Opt’s commitment to offering accessible sexual health clinical services to all BC residents. As Canada’s largest non-profit sexual health service provider, Opt offers confidential services including the provision of birth control, pregnancy testing and pro-choice options counselling, STI testing and care, and general sexual health information and referrals. Opt welcomes all ages, all genders, and all orientations.

At the Trail Opt Clinic, the service is provided as walk-in only basis and is free with a BC health care card or at low cost if clients are out of province or country.

As a complement to its clinical services, Opt also runs an anonymous and free sexual health information and referral line (1-800-SEX-SENSE) Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Trail Opt clinic is located at Suite 2 – 1500 Columbia Avenue in Trail (the Kiro Wellness Centre) and is now open every Wednesday night from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
