The Nelson and District Community Complex played host to the B.C. Hockey Under-16 Evaluation Camp this past weekend.

The camp attracted 20 players, run through practice and games, competing for 19 spots at the B.C. Cup set for later this season in Duncan.

“Obviously is was very difficult for coaches and evaluators having to choose one player that was not moving on,” said evaluator and Kootenay Wildcats coach Cary Fisher.

“The numbers were 10 selected from the East kootenay and nine selected form the west,” he added.

Castlegar and Cranbrook led the list of selections.

From Castlegar were Emilie teBulte, Reece McCrory, Kendra Waterstreet, Kaile Horner along with Emma Wheeldon and Merissa Dawson, both of Nelson, but play on teams from the Sunflower City.

From Cranbrook were Tiana Ewasiuk, Tarin Kelly, Caylee Lazar, Kennedy Sterzer, Tyra Shrubsall, Tyler Carver, Chloe Luke, Bailey Park, Jessica Owen, and Lindsay Weech.

Katilna Harland was the lone player from Kaslo while Madaline Vockeroth-Fisher is the only player from Rossland.

Haley Herridge is the final player from Nakusp.

The BC Cup attracts  teams from Vancouver (2), the North, Okanagan, Kootenays and the Island.

The players are all housed together and they participate in Practices, seminars and games.

All meals are together and they are scheduled just as thought they were a National team member.

“It is a great experience and we are all very proud of the girls that are represnting the Kootenays,” Fisher said.
