Human-caused Perry Creek fire 100 per cent guarded

Twenty firefighters and two dozers are continuing to make good progress the fire burning in the Perry Creek area.

 

With forecasted wind gusts expected this week, the Southeast Fire Centre is expecting smoke to increase on the four-hectare Perry Creek fire.

Discovered Monday afternoon, this person-caused fire is now 100 per cent guarded. Today crews will continue to remove danger trees in the area and mop-up hot spots closest to the fire perimeter. This fire is not threatening any communities or structures.

The Southeast Fire Centre would like to remind the public to that failure to properly extinguish a campfire will result in a $345 fine.

In addition, if their campfire escapes and causes a wildfire, they may be held liable for all resulting suppression costs and damages.

The fire danger rating is high with patches of extreme in the Boundary, Arrow, Kootenay Lake and Cranbrook zones. In the Invermere zone the fire danger rating is high and in the Columbia zone the fire danger rating is moderate to low.
