Castlegar residents gearing up for dancin' in the streets

More than 400 people attended last year’s city street dance, held in conjunction with Sunfest – and this year should see an even better turn-out.
City councillor Kevin Chernoff has helped organize this year’s event, and he said there’s some new innovations and fun additions to make sure everyone has a terrific time.
“The street behind City Hall will be closed off, just like last year, and the dance will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Friday night of Sunfest (June 4),” he said.
“This year we have local band Heddy Acclaim,” he added. “They’ll be playing a upbeat family music with lots of songs you’ll recognize and be able to sing along with.”
Katimavik volunteers will handle face-painting for the kids, while the older set may find their inner rebel with an airbrushed tattoo, or two. The open green space of Spirit Square promises plenty of room for the pint-sized to run around and play, while the more mature attendees may enjoy a soothing, sedate walk admiring the high-end art installed the week before in the downtown core by Castlegar Sculpturewalk.
The Lions Club will once again run the concession, and there’ll be scads of sidewalk chalk with which to get down and dirty in city streets – literally.
For those less inclined to dance or draw, tables and chairs will be set out to chat, eat, rest and just enjoy the evening and the entertainment.
Chernoff said an exciting new element will be lighted beach balls that will add a sparkly wow-factor to an already-special event.
