The Trail & District Arts Council is excited to see the return of Red Sky Dance with their visually stunning “Miigis: Underwater Panther” on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at The Bailey Theatre.

“Miigis: Underwater Panther” is a powerful, contemporary, Indigenous dance work inspired by the Great Migration of the Anishinaabe along ancient water routes from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes.

Choreographed and directed by Sandra Laronde in collaboration with the performers, this 50-minute performance brings to life themes of origin, memory, spirit beings, and the Seven Fire Prophecies—carried forward through striking movement, music, and visual design.

Music & Sound Design is by Rick Sacks with Julian Cote, Pura Fe, Marie Gaudet, Marc Merilainen, and Pierre Mongeon. The Motion Graphics, Animation & Video Design elements were designed by Febby Tan and Lighting Design by Matt Eckensweiler. The production’s look was created by Set Designer Julia Tribe and Costume Designer Lesley Hampton.

Red Sky Performance is a global leader in contemporary Indigenous arts and culture, who bring bold and inspiring new works of dance, theatre, music, and multimedia to audiences across Canada and around the world. The Indigenous-led company celebrates Indigenous ingenuity and resilience through powerful storytelling and artistic innovation.

“It’s such a privilege to bring important Indigenous works to our community, and I’m especially excited to present Migiis: Underwater Panther, as it incorporates one of my favourite art forms, contemporary dance.
