A public meeting will be held on February 25, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, on the proposal by West High Yield Resources (WHY) to establish an open-pit mine on Record Ridge to extract ore containing magnesium to ship elsewhere for refining.

The catch is that attendance will be remote — it will be held by Zoom; anyone wanting to attend is encouraged to copy and paste the following link into their browser at the time of the meeting:

https://zoom.us/j/99170309579

There is a slightly fuzzy PDF poster on the City of Rossland’s website announcing the meeting, and anyone wishing further information about the meeting is invited to phone Barry Baim of WHY, at (403) 829-2246.

I have a call in to Mr. Baim – with a request for a return call – because I’d like to know whether there will be time for questions from attendees, and answers to the questions.  I am also interested in  the opinions of WHY and the relevant departments of our provincial government  on how any punitive tariffs imposed by the POTUS may affect the economic viability of the mine.

I also wonder how many attendees the Zoom meeting will accommodate without crashing.  If Mr. Baim returns my call, I will update this report.
