RCMP warn about more phone scams

Don’t be fooled. Don’t give out any information on the phone to anyone who calls up and claims to represent your credit card company. Anyone from your credit card compoany does NOT need you to give them any information about you or your card; they would already have what they need on file. Anyone who calls up and demands (or requests) personal information about you or your credit card is a scammer. Just hang up.
Cpl. Darryl Orr of the Trail RCMP detachment’s Crimewatch has sent out a warning, following a report from a person in Rossland who received a scammer’s call, but wisely hung up.
“Criminals who conduct these fraudulent activities commonly prey on the elderly, who can fall victim to these types of crimes,” says Orr. He strongly urges everyone not to give out any personal or financial information over the phone. Scammers sometimes claim to be from your credit card company, while others claim to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) — but they’re all scammers, trying to get access to information that will enable them to use your credit card account or steal your identity.
