Controversial busing fees for SD20 students are being cut in half after the province provided a rebate of almost $200,000.

A post on the district’s website underlines a decision made by trustees this week:

“Given our Board is now able to keep $178,000 of funding originally required to go back to government, trustees voted to reduce the transportation fees by 50 per cent for the 2016/2017 school year. Details will be released and emailed to parents on Friday afternoon. The online registration system will be updated Friday afternoon as well.

“Anyone who has already registered and paid prior to the change being implemented on Friday will have 50 per cent of what they paid refunded electronically. Those refunds will be processed next week.

“The deadline for early bird pricing remains to be 11pm in June 15th. People wanting to register and pay the annual fee via monthly payments will need to register between June 16 and July 31st.

“A 10-month payment plan is ONLY available to those who register and pay online between June 16 and July 31, 2016.”
