Kids Yoga After School

Children derive enormous benefits from yoga.  Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination and body awareness.  Doing yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with their inner self develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them.  This is a playful yoga class to introduce basic yoga positions through games and other activities.  This class is light on meditation and heavy on fun!  Classes are Wednesdays from 2:50-3:50pm in the Miners Hall for youth ages 6-12 years. 

Dinosaur Discovery Pro D Day – October 23

Join the Nature Detectives on Friday October 23 from 10:00-2:30pm for a fun filled day of fossil casting, dino games and more.  The Nature Detectives will go back in time and unearth the ancient mysteries of the planet.  Camp is suitable for kids ages 5-12 years.  $50.00 per child.  Register with the REC DEpt. 

Tumbleweeds for Infants and Tots

Tumbleweeds is a movement based parent / tot program designed specifically to encourage children to explore movement through play based free time activities.  This is a great program for parents and caregivers to get a chance to get out into the community and meet others in a fun, non-structured, social venue.  Tuesdays from 10:30-11:15am in the Miners Hall.  $6.00 drop in per family. 

Prenatal Yoga Classes – starting in December

A 7 week prenatal yoga class for expecting Moms to prepare in a safe and supportive environment through yoga postures and breath techniques.   Connect with your body and your baby bump through this incredible journey….and with a community of Mamas!  Classes will be held December 6 to January 31 (no class December 27) on Sundays from 11:00-12:00pm in the Miners Hall.  Drop in is $12.00 per class. 

Nature Detectives Club for Preschoolers

The Nature Detectives Club focusses on taking children outdoors and creating connections with nature, self and others through play and exploration.  Kids build social skills and learn about nature through interactive games, skits, story-telling, crafting and music.  The Program runs on Thursday mornings until the end of October, from 9:30-12:00pm.

Youth Ukulele

Led by Lise Levesque, the Youth Ukulele program is open to youth ages 6+ and starts on Monday, October 19 from 3:30-5:00pm.   The Class runs until the end of January, 2016 in the Miners Hall downstairs room.  The program focusses on learning chords, practicing strumming patterns, basic music theory and singing in harmony.   The REC Dept. has several ukuleles that students can use during the class.

Youth REC Hockey

If your Youth is between 11-13 years, they can play non-contact fun hockey on Monday afternoons from 3:30-4:30pm.  Youth will enjoy skills and drills and a game of scrimmage hockey at the end of each session.   The program runs from the beginning of October until the end of February. 

Adult REC Hockey

Join a great group of people for a fun, co-ed hockey program on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Rossland Arena.  Coordinated by Erika Bailey, the REC Hockey series is for players to have fun, play fair and enjoy playing with other folks who love hockey!   Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:45-11:00pm.  Rossland Arena.  Enter on 2nd Ave.  $10.00 drop in or you can purchase a 10X punch pass for $80.00 from Erika or from the REC Department. 

Morning Stretch & Strength

Barb is a registered Physiotherapist and will use rehab and strengthening principles to give you a well-balanced full body workout.  This is a fun, basic level class for building and maintaining strength.  Sessions include a ten minute warm up, 40 minutes of strength conditioning and a 10 minute cool down stretch.  Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays for Intermediate levels, from 9:00-10:00am and Fridays for advanced levels, from 9:00-10:00am.  Classes are held in the Miners Hall.  Drop in is $8.00 and a 10 x punch pass is $70.00. 

Dance Fit!

Join Drea every Monday and Wednesday at 9:00am in the Miners Hall for a 60 min Dance Fitness Class!  Offering a range of styles & combination of cardio, choreography and flexibility that are designed to touch on all aspects of fitness and safety, classes can be modified to meet each individual’s needs. Low/Moderate & High intensity options!  Maternity friendly!  Strap on your shoes and come try something new!!  DanceFit is an excellent way to include some cardio activity into your day & condition your body for the winter season ahead.  Drop in is only $8.00 and a 10 visit punch card can be purchased at Rossland Rec for $70.00.   

Winter Wisdom Hatha Yoga

Hatha flow yoga practice for beginners to veterans, focused on the inner wisdom of the winter season.  Infused with Ayurvedic practices and Hindu mythology to maintain the magic, balance and support amidst your winter meanderings.  Classes are November 23 to January 25 (no class December 28) in the Miners Hall from 6:30-7:45pm. 

Community Yoga Jam!

A community yoga class for all, instructed by rotating local yoga instructors.  This class is meant to be accessible to all levels of yoga practitioners.  Partial proceeds will be donated back to the community.  This will be a great opportunity to build community, friendships and practice yoga on and off the mat!  Classes are on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:15pm starting November 25 until January 27, (no class December 23).  Fees will be on a sliding scale ($5.00 to $12.00) based on financial ability. 

Rossland Youth Action Network

Stingrays Swim Club

The Stingrays Swim Club has started their fall maintenance swim session.  The Fall Session runs from October 5-December 16 and the Winter Session runs from January 4-April 13 at the Trail Aquatic Centre.    The fee is $200.00 for one session or $350.00 for both.  If your child is new to Stingrays, they can try it out with the 5 for $25.00 special.  The Club swims Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00-6:00pm for Juniors and 6:00-7:00pm for Seniors.  Check out their website, at www.trailstingrays.ca

Around Town!

Rossland Public Library

The Library has lots of great programs and events running in the next few days, weeks and months!   On Fridays at 11:00am the Books and Babies songs and story time happens for little ones 0 to 30 months.   Every Thursday from 3:00-4:00pm there is something  going on in the Library for school aged kids.  The Page Turners program is for kids 8-11 years old, the second Thursday of each month from 3:00-4:00pm.  The Board Games Club for kids 6-12 years runs the fourth Thursday of each month from 3:00-4:00pm

RCAC presents the Vancouver Theatre Sports League  – October  23

Vancouver TheatreSports™ League (VTSL) began in 1980 and is now a local institution and a worldwide phenomenon – producing and staging some of the most daring and innovative improv in the world.  Boasting six International Improv Comedy Awards and starring in several television specials, Vancouver  TheatreSports™ League first opened their doors at the Back Alley Theatre, where they  consistently drew cult-like  capacity crowds. They continue to wow audiences at The Improv Centre  on Granville Island performing to more than 50,000 enthusiasts yearly, 5 nights a week, 52 weeks per year.

An improvised story-tale where the main performers in this show are the students!  Two improvisers narrate  and guide the story and build a stellar cast from the   audience. The participants will also supply audience suggestions and sound effects  that will be incorporated into the stories. The improvisers travel with an array of  costume pieces that the participants can wear, as they become immersed in the  land of make  believe and improv.

Theatre Sports Workshop for Youth

The VTSL is facilitating a workshop for youth from 1:00-3:00pm on Friday, October 23. 

The workshop will allow youth to learn about TheatreSports and practice the art of  Improv.  It is suitable for youth with a wide range of theatre /acting ability.  The Youth Workshop is $20.00 and includes admission into the evening performance.

Pre-registration is required.  Tickets for the evening performance are $10.00 and can be purchased at “Out of the Cellar” in Rossland or at the Charles Bailey Theatre box office in Trail.  Workshop registration details and tickets canbe found online at   www.rosslandartscouncil.com

Rocky Horror Picture Show, 40th Anniversary!!

On Friday October 30, the night comes alive with the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Rossland Miners Hall. Doors open at 7:30pm and the screening starts at 8:00pm.

DJ and dancing go from 10:00pm until midnight. 

All proceeds go to the Rossland Skatepark with tickets for sale at the Alpine Grind or Rossvegas.  Tickets are $15.00.  Brought to Rossland by the Rotary, Youth Action Network, Rossland Council for Arts & Culture and the Skatepark Society, with beer provided by the Rossland Beer Company.  This cult film has been an underground favourite for 40 years!!  If you’re not sure how to “Do the Time Warp”, google “Rocky Horror Picture Show” for the song’s words and actions. 

Costumes are encouraged!
