Rash of crime in Kaslo prompts police warning
A rash of crimes in Kaslo have police warning residents to secure their homes and vehicles, according to RCMP Cpl. Shaun Begg, who cited threetheft of autos, two theft fromautos, along with two break-and-enters, all reported on Monday morning.
“Two vehicles, a 1979 Red Mercedes Diesel Station Wagon, and a 1992 Red and Silver Dodge Dakota pickup were stolen from Rainbow Drive in Kaslo,” he said, adding both vehicles would have required a battery or a boost to start as they were stored for the winter. “A third vehicle (a 2003 red Ford F350) was stolen from the Hamill Creek Timber Homes, which is located at 13440 Hwy 31 Meadow Creek.
“Also during the weekend, two vehicles were rummaged through, and power and hand tools were taken.”
He said police are following up on potential leads, including forensics, but ask that residents promptly report any suspicious activity they witness.
“All of these events are crimes of opportunity – therefore preventable if owners take simple steps,” he said, adding police are always available to provide security and crime prevention tips to Kaslo residents.
