A wildfire that may have started from a burning structure is being contained on Fife Road in Christina Lake this evening.
Christina Lake Fire Rescue Department, the Southeast Fire Centre and the Grand Forks Fire Rescue have been fighting back the estimated 1 hectacre fire since about 5 p.m. this afternoon, Monday, Aug. 27.
“The fire is one hundred per cent boxed in,” said Karlie Shaughnessy, fire information officer with the Southeast Fire Centre, at 8:30 p.m.
The fire centre is working alongside local fire crews to contain and control the fire, which was visible from Christina Lake. One attack crew, two officers and two helicopters have been dumping lake water and fire retardent onto the flames for the past three hours.
Shaughnessy said no one has been evacuated at this time. The cause of the fire is a structure fire, but it is unknown what kind of structure or how many are involved at this time. RCMP are also onsite due to the suspicious nature of the fire. Rumour has it the fire started on Allen Piche’s property. Piche is known for being charged with feeding bears on his Fife Road property.
“The fire is not threatening anyother structures, houses or the community itself,” assures Shaughnessy.
