Open house on future of provincial power production Wednesday night

There is expected to be a 40 per cent increase in the demand for electricity in BC over the next 20 years, according to BC Hydro, and the Crown corporation is in the process of drafting a 20-year plan to meet those needs.
Public input on the Integrated Resource Plan is being garnered through 12 open houses across the province, with the nearest gathering coming Wednesday, March 30 (6-9 p.m.) in Castlegar at the Castlegar Community Complex.
BC Hydro is asking British Columbians to consider topics being addressed in the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).
These topics include conservation options, electricity generation options, long-range transmission options, the potential for electrification (switching from other fuel sources to electricity, such as may happen in the transportation sector) and the potential market opportunity to export power.
As BC Hydro seeks input into the IRP, British Columbians will be consulted on the above key topics. A workbook [PDF, 5.6 Mb] has been created for this.
The company will consider all stakeholder input collected for the review as it develops the IRP, as well as technical, financial, environmental and economic development input.
