Authors for Earth Day!

Yolanda Ridge will be “supporting conservation through literacy” this April as a participant in the annual Authors for Earth Day eco-event. Each year award-winning authors and illustrators schedule special school visits in honor of Earth Day. Together these participants have already touched the lives of thousands of students and contributed almost $16K to conservation.
When: April 17, 2013 (8:50am – 9:50am)
Where: Rossland Public Library
How it works; Yolanda Ridge will speak to the grade three students from MacLean Elementary School and share her books; Trouble in the Trees andRoad Block. As part of the author visit, students will research a list of four not-for-profit conservation organizations and vote for their favorite. Ridge will then write the winning organization a check, donating her speaking fee to the cause of the students’ choice. The donation will be given in honor of the Rossland Public Library.
“These special April author visits are designed to empower kids to find their ‘voice’, and to use that voice to help care for our blue planet,” says Brooke Bessesen, who founded Authors for Earth Day in 2010.
Authors for Earth Day is an international coalition of children’s authors and illustrators who care about kids and nature—and the future of both. The coalition promotes environmental awareness to help young readers shape the world around them.
