LETTER: Concerns about West Coast Pipeline

Dear Editor,
I want to express my concerns regarding the proposed new West Coast Pipeline.
Here is my letter to the editor:
We are all impacted by wildfires. Climate change isn’t tomorrow’s crisis. It’s today’s rising insurance bills, cancelled harvests, smoky skies, sweeping floods, destructive fires and deadly heat waves. It’s checking the BC Wildfire map at least once a day in case there’s a new start nearby.
As climate chaos gets worse, we get more and worse wildfires. Yet Carney and Smith want to make it worse by building a one-million-barrels-a-day pipeline, with a price tag of $43 billion.
They promised that any new pipeline would require a private proponent. But now we taxpayers get to pay for it. I doubt any of us who voted Liberal were asking for this. I know I wasn’t.
In 2018, the federal government bought the TMX pipeline for $4.5 billion, the public was outraged. Delays and cost overruns have now cost the people of Canada more than $34 billion, and the government still hasn’t found a private buyer.
> We need to invest in the economies of the future. The future is renewable energy; Carney and Smith would do well to remember that.
