Mountain biking mishap near Red, on Wednesday, August 19, 2020
First Responders from Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue stations in Rossland and Trail received a call for help at 11:20 on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, and were able to reach an injured man in the Red Mountain area by 11:41.
Crews worked together to extract a man with a possible broken hip – resulting from a mountain biking crash — from a location reported as near the Prospector Trail, not too far up from the base area. (Correction: later information is that the rescue was from the new “Pilgrim” trail.)
Rescuers used a “clamshell” to transfer the middle-aged man to a basket stretcher, and moved him down the trail on a two-wheeled technical rescue litter. An ambulance then transported him to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for emergency care.
The man had a friend with him, as the KBRFR advise all back-country and mountain-biking enthusiasts to do.
