UPDATE: Police seek info after region-wide vehicle theft spree

The Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP continue their investigation into the below incident that occurred over the weekend with assistance from the Nelson Forensic Identification Section. Nelson FIS will conduct forensic examinations of both stolen vehicles. The Trail RCMP will be speaking to witnesses and seeking video footage this week are part of their continued investigation.
Trail RCMP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the erratic driving of the stolen GMC truck, or anyone who may be able to provide a description of, or information regarding the identity of the culprit(s) involved, to contact the Trail and Greater District RCMP. Additionally, if anyone has information regarding the location of the Dodge Ram truck reported stolen from Fruitvale, please contact the Trail and Greater District RCMP at 250-364-2566.

On April 16, at 7:40 p.m., the Trail and Greater District Detachment received a report that a possible stolen vehicle was parked in the Safeway parking lot in Trail. The caller recognized the vehicle from a recent Social Media post regarding the theft. While en route, police confirmed, by plate number, that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Salmo, BC earlier in the day. The vehicle subsequently fled from police, travelling east toward Fruitvale and Salmo. Multiple persons witnessed this vehicle, a red, 2007 GMC pickup with BC Plate MF7256, driving erratically in Trail and Fruitvale.
Police located the vehicle, abandoned, at an address on Ross Spur Rd between Fruitvale and Salmo and the vehicle has been seized pending a forensic exam.
Police believe that the same culprit is responsible for stealing a vehicle in Creston, BC on April 16, driving that stolen vehicle to Salmo, then abandoning it to steal the above vehicle.
After abandoning the above vehicle on Ross Spur Road, police suspect that the same culprit may have been involved in the theft of another vehicle in the area. That vehicle, a red, 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 with BC plate NN7332, was reported stolen to police on April 17, 2020 at 6:51 a.m., and has not yet been located.
