On Saturday, March 4, at 1:06 p.m., Trail RCMP, Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, and EHS first responders attended the scene of a grievously injured 44-year-old Castlegar woman lying on the banks of the Columbia River near the Victoria Street Bridge in Trail, according to RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

He said officers spoke to a witness who had allegedly seen the woman fall from the bridge railing to the ground below.

“KBRFR extracted the woman from the challenging location using their high rope rescue equipment and training,” Wicentowich said.

“EHS transported the woman to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for immediate medical treatment. Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries while admitted to hospital.”

The incident has now been referred to the BC Coroner Service.
