Bronwyn Moore of Rossland's Seven Summits Centre for Learning to Attend SHAD

Bronwyn Moore, in Grade 11 at the Seven Summits Centre for Learning in Rossland, has been chosen as one of the 701 exceptional students from across Canada to join the prestigious SHAD program this July — in an intense one-month program at one of 12 host university campuses, focused on “STEAM” — science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
After the program, students become connected to a powerful network featuring some of the brightest young minds in the country, including 30 Rhodes scholars.
SHAD is a registered Canadian charity that empowers exceptional high school students “to recognize their own capabilities and envision their extraordinary potential as tomorrow’s leaders and change makers.”
Moore and the other exceptional students from Grades 10 to 12 who are accepted into the SHAD program have earned a coveted place there by competing for it with other high academic achievers from all over the country.
Michele Romanow, who was a SHAD Fellow in 2003, now stars on CBC’s Dragon’s Den and is a director of SHAD. “I think SHAD is one of Canada’s best kept secrets,” she stated. “I don’t think I would be an entrepreneur (today) if I didn’t go to SHAD.”
Barry Bisson, SHAD President, says the organization “has an incredible track record for fostering leaders in so many areas. … these brilliant young minds from all over the country come together and become inspired as part of our network to find ways to make a difference now.” He says that without this organization and its program, “our top youth are at risk of not developing their true potential, and that is why our goal is to expose even more of our brightest students to the SHAD network in the years to come.”
Bronwyn Moore will be going to Memorial University in Newfoundland to begin her SHAD journey.
