City of Trail continues to carefully monitor and update extreme weather alerts

The City of Trail is reopening the temporary Extreme Weather Response (EWR) shelter after a brief period of milder temperatures and two days of closure. The protocol was initiated in response to a drastic drop in temperatures to extreme cold levels. Future response to extreme weather in Trail will be continually evaluated according to the EWR Plan.
Over 20 unique individuals have accessed the extreme weather shelter service each night since it opened on Friday, Jan. 17. City of Trail wishes to thank BC Housing, Interior Health Authority, Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, ANKORS, the United Church, and all other important community partners, donors and volunteers for their ongoing support.
“Central to our community’s spirit is an amazing group of volunteers who have stepped up when we needed them most,” says Mayor Colleen Jones. “A heartfelt thank you to Kootenay Kebab and Marino Wholesale for their excellent service and support, and to all the volunteers for their unwavering dedication to our community’s needs.”
There are also spaces for temporary relief from winter weather during the day, including:
- City Hall (1394 Pine Ave): Open 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday
- Trail Riverfront Centre (1505 Bay Ave): Open regular hours.
