IIO called to Nakusp after fatal incident

The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Nakusp where one person has died, according to RCMP spokesperson Dawn Roberts.

“On Nov.25, 2024, shortly after 3 p.m., an officer with the Nakusp RCMP located a suspected stolen vehicle on Hwy 6 south of the community,” Roberts said. “The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle reportedly accelerated before driving off the road into the ditch.”

She said Emergency Health Services were called, but the driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger of the vehicle was taken to hospital for treatment and then released.

“The IIO BC is investigating police actions into the incident. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.”
