Bystander lends a hand - and foot - to help officer capture a wanted Trail man

On Wednesday, June 12, at 2:30 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol when he spotted a 36-year-old Trail man with outstanding arrest warrants riding his bicycle on McQuarrie Street, in Trail, acoridng to RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
“The officer activated his emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the man but instead he allegedly began to flee on his bicycle,” Wicentowich said. “A bystander noticed the situation and, with a well-placed kick, knock the man and his bicycle over when it passed by him. When the man recovered from the spill, he attempted to run away again but was slowed down by the bystander who held onto him. This allowed the officer time to catch up to the man and tackle him to the ground. The bystander then helped the officer bring the man under control.”
The officer took the man into custody and lodged him at the Trail Detachment. He was later released by a judge under conditions.
The 36-year-old Trail man may face an additional criminal charges as a result of the above incident.
We may have to train other members of the public on this gentleman’s technique for catching people,
Wicentowich said.
