City of Rossland seeking public input on Accessibility Plan

The City of Rossland is creating a new Accessibility Plan aimed at enhancing the quality of life of all residents, irrespective of age, background, or ability. This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering inclusivity and equal participation in community life.

Councillor Maya Provencal has taken part in the initiative and encourages all community stakeholders to take part. “Everyone deserves to live in a community where accessibility and inclusivity are integrated into all aspects of public life. As the stewards of many public spaces and countless programs and services with which Rossland residents interact every day, the City has a responsibility to ensure that barriers to access (and enjoyment!) are reduced. The Accessibility Plan is a huge step in this direction. I would encourage all Rossland residents with a stake in the issue of accessibility to participate in this work by filling out the survey or attending an engagement session.”

The primary objective of this plan is to eliminate barriers to accessibility within City spaces, programs and services, thereby ensuring that every individual can actively engage in and contribute to the vibrancy of the community. As part of this process, we invite and encourage active participation from all community members to provide valuable insight on shaping an inclusive and accessible Rossland.

The City recognizes that Rossland residents have many intersecting abilities and identities. Public engagement will play a pivotal role in shaping the Accessibility Plan, guiding decisions on priorities and actions aimed at removing barriers to access in areas such as, municipal transport, employment, buildings, communication, procurement and more.

There are several ways to give input from now until June 3, 2024. To learn more, register for a focus group, and fill out the survey, please visit: https://rossland.ca/buzz_items/accessiblity-plan/
