On Jan. 19,  at approximately 6:30 a.m., Osoyoos Fire Rescue and Osoyoos RCMP supported by other first responders attended to a mobile home fire at the Avalon Mobile Home Park on Main Street in Osoyoos, according to Penticton/South Okanagan/Similkameen RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Jason Bayda  .

He said that, although numerous fire crews responded quickly, the fire had already engulfed the home.

“Sadly, once the fire was out, the remains of one person were located inside,” Bayda said.

He added that although the investigation is ongoing and the exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, it does not appear suspicious.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the decedent during this most difficult time, Bayda said. The BC Coroners Service has been engaged and is conducting their own concurrent fact-finding investigation.
