UPDATED: State of Local Emergency in Grand Forks rescinded

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary EOC is encouraged to see that a decrease in precipitation has allowed some river and creek levels have dropped or are holding steady.
However, the RDKB EOC said that residents are encouraged to continue to take precautions knowing that the snowpack is still deep.
In its latest update for Evacuation Orders and Alerts, the RDKB said that the State of Local Emergency in Grand Forks has been rescinded.
The Evacuation Order for 34 properties on 12th Street in Grand Forks has been downgraded to an Alert.
The current status of Evacuation Orders and Alerts is:
- Evacuation Order: 1 property on Edwards Road in Gilpin, Rural Grand Forks
- Evacuation Order: 6 properties in Nursery, Rural Grand Forks
- Evacuation Order: 1 property on Jmayoff Road
- Evacuation Order: 11 properties in Manly Meadows
- Evacuation Order: 10 properties at Beatrice & Division in South Johnson Flats
- Evacuation Alert: 591 addresses from Carmi to Christina Lake (excluding Greenwood & Grand Forks)
- Evacuation Alert: 12 properties in Christina Lake
- Evacuation Alert: 16 properties in Fruitvale & 1 in Area A (Kenny Rd.)
- Evacuation Alert: 34 addressed properties on 12th Street in Grand Forks
“We continue to closely monitor models, forecasts and water levels,” Mark Stephens, EOC Director said in Sunday media release.
“We’re encouraged to see water levels receding but will keep some areas on order and alert out of concern for those residents. The EOC is committed to continuing to support our communities,” said Stephens, adding that the EOC will remain on standby should conditions change.
“We are immensely grateful for the support from our provincial and municipal partners, BC Wildfire Service crews, the Canadian Red Cross and a multitude of volunteers,” said Linda Worley, RDKB Board Chair.
“I’m proud of our RDKB regional emergency operations staff who have been working diligently to ensure the safety of our communities.”
The Canadian Red Cross reports that five households sought emergency support services on Saturday, May 6th. Anyone needing services can call 1.888.800.6493. Affected residents can also self-register at ess.gov.bc.ca.
Residents are also encouraged to register for the RDKB’s free emergency notification system at https://voyent-alert.com/ca/community/#registration. Those subject to Evacuation Orders or Alerts will receive instant messaging if they are signed up to the system.

The RDKB EOC remains fully activated after a busy Saturday that saw more residents placed on Evacuation Orders and Alerts.

- Evacuation Order: 34 addressed properties on 12th Street in Grand Forks
- Evacuation Order: 1 property on Jmayoff Road

- Evacuation Alert: 591 addresses from Carmi to Christina Lake (excluding Greenwood & Grand Forks)

The Canadian Red Cross has set up a reception centre at the Jack Goddard Memorial Arena in Grand Forks for those needing emergency support services. Anyone on Evacuation Alert is encouraged to pre-register for services to expedite the process should they be evacuated.
Affected residents can self-register at ess.gov.bc.ca. The reception centre will be open from 10 am until 6 pm tomorrow, May 7th.
