Nelson man with outstanding warrants remanded to custody after weapons incident in Warfield

A Nelson man will remain in jail after an incident in Warfield, according to Trail RCMP NCO/ic Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On Sunday, Jan. 22, at 3:46 p.m., frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a report of a man flashing a knife to a passerby in the 800 block of Schofield Hwy in Warfield,” Wicentowich said.

“The officers attended the location and located a 39-year-old Nelson man passed out on a bench (and) allegedly in possession of the knife and drug use paraphernalia.

Wicentowich said officers arrested the man for Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to Section 88 of the Criminal Code and Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

“An officer conducted a search of the man incident to his arrest and located a quantity of packaged Fentanyl and Methamphetamine,” he said. “The man appeared to be intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

“Officers discovered that the man had outstanding unendorsed warrants for his arrest for Forcible Confinement, Assault, Uttering Threats, Possession of a Weapon for a Danger Purpose, Mischief, Forcible Entry, Assault Police Officer, and Obstruct Police Officer.”

The 39-year-old Nelson man was remanded into custody after a bail hearing before a judge.

Trail RCMP has noticed that the trend appears to be repeated offenders are being held in custody,”Wicentowich said.
