Grand Forks police recover stolen truck and trailer full of family’s belongings

A family moving to the East Kootenay can thank a tip from the public for police successfully retrieving a family’s belongings said Grand Forks RCMP in a media release Sunday.
Police said the file started sometime early Saturday January 22, 2022 when a Ford F350 truck with an attached 18 foot enclosed cargo trailer was taken from outside a Grand Forks hotel room at the 2700 block of Central Ave while the family was asleep.
RCMP said the family, which includes a one-year old child were in the progress of moving to the East Kootenay, had their entire life packed in the trailer.
RCMP officers attended and immediately began their investigation.
RCMP said throughout the day, officers followed up on a few investigative leads which led to one of the family credit cards being used at local businesses in the downtown core.
Officers descended on the area and located a female in possession of the credit card, along with other stolen items.
Police said a 41-year-old woman from Grand Forks was arrested, taken into custody and later released on an Appearance Notice for court on April 5, 2022 at the Grand Forks Courthouse.
Police said after it was suggested to the family to use social media to their advantage.
The social media post this incident on Facebook resulted in police received a tip around 230 p.m. that the truck/trailer were up the North Fork area by Borrel Forest Service Road. Officers attended and located the truck and trailer.
Police said all the family’s belongings were recovered.
“A great effort was put into this file by my officers in actively investigating this matter throughout the day,” said Detachment Commander Sergeant Darryl Peppler.
“The worry and despair that this family must have gone through is unimaginable, and we are just glad that we were able to recover their belongings.”
Sgt Peppler said that the investigation is still continuing and police hope to make additional arrests and forward charges to Crown Counsel.
