Five-alarm blaze destroys recycling plant

A massive fire in Waneta Industrial park yesterday completely levelled a recycling facility and kept 39 firefighters busy throughout the night.
“Crews from Stn 371 – Rossalnd, Stn 372 – Warfield, Stn 374 – Trail, Stn 375 – Montrose and Stn 376 – Fruitvale responded to a five-alarm fire at GFL Trail Material Recovery Facility,” said KBRFR Chief Dan Derby in press release. “Firefighters worked very hard in hot, challenging circumstances to contain the fire. Crews worked through the night to extinguish hot spots with heavy equipment.”
Derby said there were no injuries to occupants or fire fighters.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by RCMP and the fire department.
