Police seek public tips after hit-and-run Saturday
Police are looking for community assistance in identifying the vehicle/suspect in a hit-and-run collision in Rossland Saturday, according to area RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
He said police responded to an MVI at roughly 10:35 a.m., Feb. 20, at the intersection of Leroi Avenue and Monita Street,
“A 50-year-old Rossland woman was behind the wheel of a silver 2020 Mitsubishi car when another vehicle struck her car in the intersection,” Wicentowich said. “The suspect vehicle fled the scene by driving up Monita Street against the posted Do Not Enter traffic control sign and was last seen turning left onto Dunn Crescent.”
He said the damage caused by the crash should make the vehicle fairly noticable, particularly in a small community like Rossland.
“The suspect vehicle is described as an older, dark grey hatchback with an ‘N’ decal on the rear, driven by a single occupant. The hatchback did not have its headlights turned on at the time of the incident and it may have a 3 in its licence plate. The hatchback should have significant damage to the front passenger side and possibly down its passenger side panels from the collision.
“Please contact the Trail and Greater District RCMP at 250-364-2566 if you witnessed this incident or can identify the driver or vehicle that fled the scene.”
Because it was a fairly low speed collision, the woman driving the other vehicle was not seriously injured, but the police are investigating the suspect driver for criminal hit-and-run.
