Update: Death of woman on New Year’s Day now considered a hit-and-run homicide

Sicamous RCMP and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the unexpected death of a woman early on New Year’s Day.
The victim, who was previously reported to be 65 years of age, has been positively identified as a 64-year-old woman. She was found at approximately 2:30 a.m., suffering from significant injuries, on a private roadway within the Cedars RV and Resort on Luoma Road in Sicamous, BC.
The Sicamous RCMP has been working in partnership with the Southeast District General Investigation Section and forensic specialists from the Integrated Forensic Identification Services section on this criminal hit and run investigation.
The investigation has led investigators to believe that the woman was struck by a motor vehicle, says Sgt. Murray McNeil, Detachment Commander of the Sicamous RCMP. This is now considered a fatal hit-and-run and we are once again asking the public for information regarding this incident.

Sicamous RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are investigating the circumstances surrounding the unexpected death of a woman who was discovered in cardiac arrest early New Year’s Day in Malakwa.
On January 1, 2021 at 2:28 a.m., Sicamous RCMP was called to assist the BC Emergency Health Services who were responding to reports of an adult woman found in medical distress in the Cedars RV and Resort on Luoma Road in Sicamous, BC. The injured woman was located laying in the middle of a private roadway within the resort complex by an area resident who called for emergency medical assistance.
The victim, a 65-year-old woman, had sustained significant injuries. She was rushed from the scene in grave condition and transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation into the woman’s death remains in its infancy, states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesman for the BC RCMP in the Southeast District. Investigators are considering all possible factors that may have led to the woman’s unexpected death, which is being considered as suspicious in nature at this time.
The BC Coroners Service has been notified and has launched a concurrent fact-finding investigation into the woman’s death.
