Puppies spend night in pokey after bizarre stabbing incident
Six puppies got to spend a night in police custody after a bizarre call brought them to RCMP attention, according to Trail top cop Mike Wicentowich.
"On July 22, at 10:13 p.m. the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP responded to a complaint of a stabbing," Wicentowich said in a press release. |Police immediately attended a residence in the 900 Block of Mountain Street in Trail and found a 35-year-old Grand Forks man suffering from a stab wound."
He said the subsequent investigation quickly revealed that the wound was self-inflicted and the man was arrested for Public Mischief, contrary to the 140(1) of the Criminal Code, for filing a false police report.
He also said that, during the investigation, police located a 24-year-old man who required medical attention for an unrelated medical condition and was taken to an area hospital.
"Police also located six puppies in poor living conditions inside the residence and removed due to concern for their immediate welfare. The puppies spent the night at the Trail Detachment until the SPCA took custody of them the following day," Wicentowich added.
The SPCA will launch an investigation into the care and well-being of the puppies.
All six puppies appeared to be in good spirits during their stay. Animal cruelty can be reported to the SPCA at 1-855-622-7722.
