The Selkirk College Saints will ride the underdog train into the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) playoffs after clinching the final spot in the run for the championship.

The Saints returned to the West Kootenay from a weekend roadtrip on Vancouver Island with one out of a possible four points, but it was enough to secure fourth place in the BCIHL regular season standings. The Saints lost 9-4 to the University of Victoria on Friday night and then dropped a 3-2 OT heartbreaker to Vancouver Island University on Saturday night in Nanaimo.

With their regular season now complete, the Saints are guaranteed the final post-season berth and will take on the first-place Trinity Western University Spartans in a best-of-three series in Richmond on March 12-14. The Spartans finished 21 points ahead of the Saints and are the BCIHL defending champions.

The last time the two teams met in the playoffs was in the 2018 championship series where Trinity Western University claimed their first league title. The Saints won an unprecedented four BCIHL championships in a row between 2013 and 2016.

Hockey fans can catch the Saints-Spartans playoff series on hockeytv.com starting on Thursday, March 12.
