Mayor Kathy Moore has an invitation for Rosslanders who are interested in our region’s goal of 100% renewable energy.  She invites everyone to attend a public workshop in the Lily May Room at the Miners Hall, and contribute thoughts and ideas and responses to other ideas . . .  and have some pizza.  Read on, and then mark your calendars.

After all, we are in a climate emergency, and reducing our carbon footprint dramatically is crucial to our survival as a civilization. That’s what a large number of well-qualified scientists keep telling us, with ever-increasing urgency.

Marching in the streets, shouting and waving placards, even getting arrested for it is easy; but doing the work, and making the sacrifices of ease, indulgence and luxury that we must make to lower that sky-high carbon footprint, is more challenging.  As is convincing the unconvinced.

The recent public workshop on the proposed development at the Emcon lot had a good turn-out, with many residents asking questions and getting answers.  This next workshop is an opportunity to provide more constructive input, toward a more challenging goal.  Who’s up for it?

Here’s Mayor Moore’s invitation:

Rossland and other local governments across the West Kootenays are developing a 100% Renewable Energy Plan to build on our region’s achievements and work toward a carbon neutral future.

JOIN US AT THE PUBLIC WORKSHOP!

Pizza will be served!

We want to hear what you think:

  • What is your vision for the future?
  • What do you see as top priorities for Rossland?
  • Are there problems today that the West Kootenay 100% Renewable Energy Plan can help resolve in the future?

 Date: November 20, 2019

Time: 5:30 p.m.

Location: Miners Hall, in the Lily May Room

Those attending the Workshop will get a discounted ticket price of $15 for the ski/snowboard movie fundraiser for the EcoSociety following the Workshop. Plus, those who attend the Workshop will be entered into a draw for a free ticket to the movie screening.

Just one request – if you’re planning to attend, please notify Kathy (“Kathy Moore” <mayor@rossland.ca> ) or City Hall so they’ll have some idea of how much pizza to order.  We wouldn’t want to run short!

Over to you, fellow citizens.  I hope to see you there.
