Curious about Seven Summits Centre for Learning, the school for students from Grade 8 to 12 right here in Rossland, in the red-roofed church building at First Avenue and Queen Street? Wondering whether it might be a better choice for one or more of your young family members? Mark April 25 on your calendar, and go to the school’s Information Night at 7:00 pm to find out what it offers.

You can tour the space, and hear what students have to say.  You can also call 250-362-7772 for more information first.

For the Centre's April newsletter, chock-full of interesting items, click this link.  Be sure to read about the Khan Academy scholarship opportunity, open to students everywhere. Here's a bit of a spoiler: the "Breakthrough Junior Challenge" video contest offers a winner a college scholarship of $250,000.  Not only that, but the winner's teacher will receive a $50,000 prize, and the school will get a new $100,000 science lab. Anyone from the age of 13 to 18 is eligible to enter.  The challenge is to explain a difficult concept in physics, math, or the life sciences in an engaging, illuminating and creative way, in a short video — three minutes or less. Start cogitating, kids. Figuring out how to explain things is a  very worthwhile exercise even if a person doesn't win the prize.
