Highway 3 was closed for roughly an hour this morning after an MVI  involving a small car and a logging truck, according to Ootischenia Fire Chief George Hamm.

Hamm said the call came in at 8 a.m., and both Ootischenia and Castlegar Fire Departments attended a crash roughly one-and-a-half km past the weigh scales, heading east on Hwy. 3.

“It looks like the small car was coming down the hill and lost control, and was impacted by the truck,” he said, adding the crash almost tore the car in two. “The Castlegar Fire Department brought the Jaws of Life, and we were able to quickly get the patient out.”

He said BCAS transported the woman to hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the logging truck was uninjured.

“All the agencies worked well together to care for the patient,” he said.

Hamm also said motorists need to slow down and drive to conditions.
