UPDATED: Residents asked to carpool to Monday meeting regarding Harrop Creek Wildfire

The Regional District of Central Kootenay reminds residents of the Proctor/Harrop area there will be a public meeting Monday, September 4th at 6 p.m. to update residents on the Harrop Creek Wildfire.
In media release Monday, the RDCK says the Harrop Creek Wildfire continues to burn at the top of the slope, with minimal spread towards the communities below.
However, the Evacuation Alert for the communities of Harrop, Procter, Sunshine Bay and Kootenay Lake Village remains in place.
The RDCK said residents are encouraged to carpool to the meeting, and depending on the amount of attendees the meeting may be held outside at the community hall.
The BC Wildfire Service and RDCK Emergency Services staff will be hosting the meeting and residents will have an opportunity to ask questions.
Public meeting Monday regarding Harrop Creek Wildfire
The Regional District of Central Kootenay is advising residents of the Proctor/Harrop area there will be a public meeting Monday, September 4th at 6 p.m. to update residents on the Harrop Creek Wildfire.
The meeting, set for the Procter Community Hall at 246 Third Avenue in Procter, will be led by BC Wildfire Service staff.
RDCK Emergency Services staff also in attendance.
“There has been no significant growth of the wildfire overnight towards the communities below, and BC Wildfire continues to build their containment line,” the RDCK Emergency Operations Centre said in a media release Sunday.
“The Evacuation Alert for the communities of Harrop, Procter, Sunshine Bay and Kootenay Lake Village remains in place.”
The BC Wildfire Service said the Harrop Creek Wildfire, which has grown to an estimated size of 3,142 hectares, saw an increase in fire activity on various parts of the fire due to winds Saturday.
“This fire is currently burning in steep and complex terrain,” the BC Wildfire Service website said.
“Personnel are reassessing this fire and a contingency guard is being placed at the base of the Narrow Creek drainage.”
The RDCK said residents who wish to receive text updates specific to the Harrop Creek wildfire for the duration of the incident can text HARROP to 778-400-1771.
“All residents are encouraged to prepare a 72 hour Grab and Go Emergency Kit for themselves and their families and to sign up for the RDCK Emergency Alert Notification System.”
Residents can also visit the BC Wildfire Status page for information on current wildfires in the area.
The RDCK will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.
