RDCK fire departments respond to house fire in Bonnington
The Regional District of Central Kootenay Emergency Operations Centre reports local departments in the Bonnington area were called Friday morning to deal with a house fire.
The fire was contained to the house at 3763 Thompson Road in Bonnington.
However, the house was lost in the fire.
“Currently there are two BC Wildfire helicopters, three RDCK fire departments with eight fire apparatus and two BC Wildfire crews are fighting the fire to prevent it from spreading as a wildfire,” the RDCK EOC media release said.
“At the moment, the fire is contained to the structure and there is currently no need for evacuations."
Crews overcame extreme heat conditions to fight the blaze. Firefighters fought the fire in shifts, using the breaks to hydrate and receiving regular checks by BC Ambulance staff.
The success at keeping the fire from not spreading to the forest surrounding the house was due to mutual aid from other local departments and the cohesiveness between the crews on the ground.
The RDCK EOC would like to remind the public to please remember the region is currently in an extreme fire hazard with open burning and campfires are prohibited.
“Stay prepared with your 72 hour kit in the case of an evacuation and please sign up for the Emergency Alert System.”
