NPD arrest two men for possession of stolen property

One man remains in custody after Nelson Police arrested a pair of men in the 700 Block of Vernon Street Tuesday.

NPD Sergeant Nate Holt said the arrest resulted after dispatch received a report of a male action suspicious while attempting to exchange foreign currency at a local currency exchange outlet.

“The money was suspected to have been stolen from a Break and enter to a residence in RCMP jurisdiction the previous day,” Holt explained.

“NPD members arrested two males in the 700 block of Vernon Street that were attempting to flee the scene in a vehicle.

“A search of the vehicle and the males revealed approximately $5000 equivalent in foreign currency and two high powered rifles stolen from the same break in.”

Holt said the two men, known to NPD, were charged with possession of stolen property over $5000 obtained by crime and numerous firearm related offences.

Holt said one man was released on judicial imposed conditions for a court date on July 18th 2017.

The other male remains in custody for a court date on the same day. The vehicle used in the offence has been seized for Civil Forfeiture process.
