Interior Health in a media release Tuesday said recreation users can go back to their normal habits around the Balfour Ferry terminal.

IH said based on a June 5 environmental consulting report, it has been determined that there is no longer any potential health risk to recreational water use associated with an oil spill near the Balfour Ferry terminal in April.

“Interior Health issued a public service announcement on April 15 as a precaution for recreational water use along a 400-metre stretch of shoreline on Kootenay Lake,” the release said.

“This was in response to a Ministry of Environment notification regarding gear oil that had leaked into the lake.”

IH said the June 5 environmental report shows no evidence of remaining oil from the spill.
