UPDATED: Single property remains on Evacuation Order, rest now Evacuation Alert

In media release Saturday, the Regional District of Central Kootenay is rescinding the Evacuation Order for three homes on Picard Road due to a reduced risk of flooding.

The area will remain on Evacuation Alert and residents should be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

The property that remains on Evacuation Order is:

The RDCK in conjunction with MOTI and YRB are undertaking work to raise the levels of Slocan Valley West

The RDCK said the governing body, along with Ministry of Trasporation and Infrastructure will mitigate further flooding of the road.

Sand and sandbags are available at the Slocan Fire Hall at 8877 Slocan Street South in Slocan and the Silverton Fire Hall at 410 Hume Street in Silverton.

Sand and sandbags are available at the following locations:

  • Blewett — Blewett Fire Hall with sand available at RDCK 202 Lakeside Drive
  • Crescent Valley — bags and sand at Crescent Valley Fire Hall
  • Harrop/Proctor — Harrop Fire Hall bags and sand at Harrop Fire Hall
  • Kaslo — bags and sand Kaslo Public Works
  • North Shore — North Shore Fire Hall, with sand at North Shore Fire Hall and Dvorjetz Road
  • Nelson — RDCK with sand available at RDCK 202 Lakeside
  • Passmore — Passmore Fire Hall with sand at Passmore Fire Hall

Residents are advised to stay away from riverbanks and fast flowing water.

The RDCK will keep the public updated as more information becomes available.

RDCK dials back Evacuation Order for some Slocan Valley properties

The Regional District of Central Kootenay has dialed back its Evacuation Order for some properties in the Slocan Valley.

After extensive consultation with flood assessors and other pertinent government agencies, the RDCK is reducing the Evacuation Order for some properties in the Slocan Valley to an Evacuation Alert.

“This is due to continuous water level monitoring and infrastructure improvements to ensure public safety,” the RDCK release said.

“Residents in an Evacuation Alert area should be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

  • 6268 Picard Rd

RDCK releases list of Slocan Valley properties under Evacuation Order

Regional District of Central Kootenay has released the properties under an Evacuation Order in the Slocan Valley Thursday.

Earlier the RDCK announced a State of Local Emergency in the Slocan Valley due to rising levels of the Slocan River.

The Slocan River remains under flood watch with levels reaching 20 year returns.

The evacuation order has been issued for the following properties:

  • 3946 Woykin Road
  • 4058 Indian Pt Road
  • 3946 Indian Pt Road
  • 3922 Indian Pt Road
  • 4065 Indian Pt Road
  • 4023 Indian Pt Road

  • 3875 Indian Pt Road
  • 3890 Indian Pt Road

Residents are required to leave the affected area immediately and report to the reception centre at Crescent Valley Fire Hall at 1365 Highway 6.
