Evacuation Order for Slocan Valley West Road
The Regional District of Central Kootenay has declared a State of Local Emergency and an Evacuation Order for Slocan Valley West Road following flooding due to a continued rise of the Slocan River.
In a media release Thursday, the RDCK said several sections of Slocan Valley West Road have meanwhile been submerged.
“A flood watch remains in place for the Slocan River, with the river having reached or exceeded the 20 year return level,” the release said.
“The evacuation order has been issued for the following areas: 2220 to 2987 Slocan Valley West Road.”
The RDCK said residents are required to leave the affected area immediately and report to the reception centre at the Passmore Fire Hall 3725 Hwy 6.
Access to the Evacuation Order Area is being controlled.
The high water has also forced possible interruptions of the Glade Ferry, located 20 kilometers east of Castlegar just off Highway 3A.
Heavy debris has been seen in the river causing interruptions of the cable ferry that crosses Kootenay River west of the Slocan River. There are possible 30 minute delays.
