RDCK residents may qualify for Disaster Financial Assistance
The Regional District of Central Kootenay is encouraging residents whose homes or contents incurred damage from floods or slides between March 15-23, 2017 to apply for Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA).
The RDCK said in a media release Monday Emergency Management BC has authorized funding for those claimants who qualify and who are unable to obtain insurance to cover their losses.
“Applicants should first check with their insurance agent to determine if their current insurance policy provides coverage for the resulting damage,” said the RDCK media release.
“As part of the DFA qualification process, the applicant’s insurer will be asked to provide a letter indicating that the applicant could not have purchased insurance to cover these disaster-related losses.”

The RDCK said applicants should note that the deadline for submissions is June 25, 2017.
The RDCK also reports Hanson Road near Ainsworth and Deer Park Forestry Road near Castlegar have both re-opened.
Hanson Road was heavily damaged due to heavy water flow in the area.
Meanwhile, the Deer Park road was re-opened Monday to vehicle traffic after the road was approved for travel.
Residents in the area were unable to use vehicles after parts of the road slipped down the bank.
