Police dealing with multiple clown sightings
The “creepy clown craze” is continuing to create concerns for cops, according to Trail top cop Sgt. Darren Oelke.
In a press release today, Oelke said Trail RCMP continue to receive reports of clown sightings in Trail and Fruitvale.
“Since last Friday there have been seven reports made to the police,” he said. “Some of the reports have been proven to be false. No individuals dressed as clowns have been located or identified by the police.
“Social media has been reporting clown sightings across Canada and the United States, causing some citizens to become fearful.
“Trail RCMP have no reason to believe any of the ‘clown sightings’ pose a danger to the public,” Oelke said, adding, “Police are concerned for the safety of any individual dressing up as a clown for the purpose of carrying on this prank as some of the general public may interpret their actions as a threat.
“Any clown sighting should be reported to the police immediately.”
The Trail RCMP detachment non-emergency line is 250-364-2566.
