Letter: West Kootenay Cities help with Ride to Conquer Cancer Ride
To The Editor:
A big thank you to members of the Nelson, Castlegar and Trail communities for your generous contributions to support the Ride to Conquer Cancer. I reached out to family, friends and the community and was overwhelmed by how much money was donated to the Ride.
The three communities helped me raise $6490 and contributed to the $7.1 million raised for the Ride to Conquer Cancer this year.
Established in 1935, the BC Cancer Foundation is the bridge that connects philanthropic support and research breakthroughs in cancer knowledge.
As the fundraising partner of the BC Cancer Agency and the largest charitable funder of cancer research in this province, it enables donors to make contributions to leading-edge research that has a direct impact on improvements to cancer care for patients in British Columbia.
The BC Cancer Agency provides a province-wide cancer control program for everyone in British Columbia and Yukon. It delivers the full spectrum of cancer care including prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive, and palliative care.
The BC Cancer Agency excels at translating exciting discoveries from the researcher’s bench to the patient’s bedside. This is the quickest and most effective way to impact cancer care, and it makes the Agency an international leader in cancer research.
During the Ride events, participants got to hear stories of how the money raised impacts survivors personally, through specific research programs and treatments.
Many of these people were riding with us! It was quite emotional throughout the weekend as riders with yellow survivor flags were out on the route, passing us or saying, “Good morning” as I rode by.
There was a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere throughout the weekend as participants were all there just to raise money and awareness about the battle to end cancer.
The Ride to Conquer Cancer is a very well organized event held each year. I strongly encourage people to participate in one if they can. It’s a great cause and I am very grateful I was able to do it.
Thank you to everyone who donated to my Ride and who supported me!
