Nelson SAR use helicopter to rescue injured mountain biker from Shannon Pass

An injured mountain biker competing in the 6 Day Trans BC Enduro race was successfully airlifted to safety by Nelson Search and Rescue volunteers Saturday afternoon.
Chris Armstrong of Nelson SAR said in a media release the call came in Saturday that a member of the media team fell and fractured his lower leg in the Shannon Pass area on the North Shore Mountains.
“The subject was initially stabilized by members of the Trans BC Enduro medical team,” Armstrong explained.
“Two NSAR teams accessed the subject on foot and owing to the remoteness and ruggedness of the terrain a helicopter long line rescue (CDFL) was successfully executed,” Armstrong added.
Armstrong said after the successful rescue, the injured biker was handed off to BC Ambulance later that same afternoon.
Shannon Pass is located in the mountains above Four Mile north of Nelson.
The 6 Day Enduro is a race that started July 4 in Kelowna before ending in Nelson Saturday, July 9 with participants riding in mountains trails in around Kelowna, Penticton, Rossland and Nelson.
Competitors rode through mountain bike trails for three to six hours daily, covering 30-plus kilometer distances as well as 1000-1500 meters of climbing each day.
