A NEW EDUCATION PARTNER FOR SEVEN SUMMITS

Seven Summits Centre for Learning in Rossland is very pleased to announce they have formalized a partnership with Navigate (NIDES — North Island Distance Education School)) to deliver a cutting edge, blended-learning program beginning September 2016 for students in grades 8-12. With a clear focus on building flexible, personalized learning programs that are tailored to meet each student’s needs and “sparks,” Navigate has received national and international recognition for their innovative approach to learning.
While Navigate operates out of School District 71 in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, their programming supports students in over fifty of sixty public school districts across B.C., as one of the province’s premier distributed-learning schools. The partnership with the Seven Summits Learning Centre in Rossland means that students who attend the Centre will have direct access to the full range of core and elective courses that are designed using provincial curriculum, and taught by fully certified B.C. teachers located both in Rossland and Courtenay, B.C.
“The Seven Summits Learning Centre has operated a very high quality secondary platform for its students for three years now,” states Navigate (NIDES) Principal, Jeff Stewart. “Our partnership with the Centre brings the students, parents, staff and community the stability of working with an established and recognized leader in public education,” he adds. “After visiting the Centre, meeting with the students, staff and Board, it is clear to me that there will be a clear focus on high academic standards for students who are college and university bound,” Stewart continued. “We also see strong possibilities for expanding our district’s (SD 71) international student program in the future. Rossland provides an ideal centre for students from Europe and Asia,” stated Stewart.
During programming conversations that happened in May, the Seven Summits staff and administration are also excited by Navigate’s ability to deliver their blended approach to learning in athletics, the arts and new technologies. As one example of this, Navigate has recently launched PACE, a provincial program for high performance athletes (Performance Athlete Custom Education), that has already garnered strong interest from sports organizations and student athletes from around B.C. “When we found out that we could no longer have Self Design as our education partner, we researched several distributed learning programs around the province. Navigate was the one we were most excited about. It offers progressive and innovative programs, and is the perfect fit for Seven Summit’s learning philosophy,” states Sue McBride, Seven Summit’s local administrator.
Besides the compulsory B.C. curriculum taught by the Centre’s teachers in Rossland, students will be able to choose from a myriad of electives including robotics, forensic science, law, accounting, and over twenty different languages.
As it has for the first three years, Seven Summits will continue to offer a flexible high school program, which enables students to graduate early or work around an employment schedule, and allows Red Mountain Academy and Black Jack athletes to train and compete.
“And with this partnership, our students will be a part of the public school system, which is definitely preferable to many families. We couldn’t be more excited about working with Navigate and all the opportunities it offers to our students!” says McBride.
