When I look out the window at this time of year, I see the black speckled snow piles disappearing and the increased dust and gravel on the streets and sidewalks. Most people assume the black specks are dirt, but they are also moulds. Here are the solutions to stop or minimize symptoms of  sneezing, nasal or sinus congestion, irritated eyes, post-nasal drip or a sore or irritated throat.

  1. Substitute your known allergens. Get your foods and environmental allergies tested using a VEGA machine. Skin testing for foods is not accurate. By keeping the “wheel barrow empty” the body will usually tolerate dust or mould.
  2. Use an allergy air filter in your furnace that removes small particulates.
  3. Remove moulds with vinegar to clean the mould around windows and keep the house temperature at 68 degrees for 8 hours a day.
  4. Use a dust/dust mite cover on the mattress and pillow and remove all rugs from the bedroom. Vacuum or damp mop once a week and remove any books, stuffed animals or trinkets on dressers and wash stuffed animals weekly.
  5. Get 8 hours of sleep and maintain a consistent eating pattern to minimize cortisol.
  6. Eat lots of greens to alkalinize the body.
  7. Take a non-citrus Vitamin C to bowel tolerance to maximize immune function.
  8. Add nettles to herbal tea or stir-fries, soups or stews.
  9. Take quercitin to decrease reactions
  10.  Add onions, garlic or shallots, which have naturally occurring quercitin, to your food.
