'Legendary Performance' coming to the Miners Hall -- January 22

The musical sounds of jazz legend Dave Brubeck will be brought to life by the Remi Bolduc Jazz Ensemble on January 22, in the final installment of the Rossland Council for Arts and Culture’s 2015/16 Performance Series.
Remi Bolduc, one of Canada’s best Jazz saxophonists, lives in Montreal, where he is a professor and Area chair of the jazz department at McGill University. He has been influenced by, and has collaborated with, many influential jazz musicians of our time such as Kenny Werner, Joe Lavano, Chris Potter, and Dave Douglas.
With pianist Francois Bourassa, Fraser Hollins on acoustic bass, and Dave Laing on drums the Remi Bolduc Jazz Ensemble Tribute to Dave Brubeck promises a versatile, dynamic, and breathtaking performance. The program includes “Take Five,” “Blue Rondo a la Turk” and several other compositions from the Brubeck album “Time Out”– one of the most famous and best-selling albums in the history of jazz.
Dave Brubeck was considered to be one of the foremost exponents of cool jazz, very few American Jazz musicians have been as popular or had as much influence. In The Guardian, John Fordham said “Brubeck’s real achievement was to blend European compositional ideas, very demanding rhythmic structures, jazz song-forms and improvisation in expressive and accessible ways.” The Daily Telegraph music journalist Ivan Hewett wrote, “His work list is astonishing, including oratorios, musicals and concertos, as well as hundreds of jazz compositions. This quiet man of jazz was truly a marvel.”Brubeck was dubbed the Jazz hero of the Rock and Roll generation.
Brubeck passed away in 2012, but the Remi Bolduc Jazz Ensemble is keeping his music alive. Join the Rossland Council for Arts and Culture at the Miners Hall on Friday, January 22, and hear the stuff legends are made of.
